If you missed it, here’s a recap of the key takeaways!

Key Takeaways from the Seminar
1. Creating a Winning Profile
Mawuena shared practical advice on creating your LinkedIn profile step:
Ensure you are smiling in your profile photo as this makes you warm and approachable.

Examples of a good profile photo and a bad profile photo (Source: Headshot Visuals) For the About Section, this is where you showcase yourself. Ensure to include your skillset, what your career goals are and make it personable to you.

Example of a well-written About section (Source: LinkedIn Talent Blog) For the Experience Section, LinkedIn allows you to add skills to each entry. This allows recruiters when they are searching for specific skills for your profile to be visible in their search.

LinkedIn and Your Career
Mawuena outlined how to use LinkedIn through all stages of your career:
Interviews: According to a study by ResumeGo, a detailed LinkedIn profile boosts your chances of landing an interview by 71%. Also, companies regularly post articles and updates on LinkedIn which you can use as part of your research for your interview.
Visibility: Utilise LinkedIn by reacting to posts you find insightful, commenting or even creating your own post. You never know your increased visibility might open up the door for future opportunities.
Career Opportunities: Recruiters and hiring managers actively use LinkedIn so it provides an opportunity to network with them, ask for career advice and show your genuine interest in the roles they post.
3. Networking on LinkedIn
Mawuena reflected on her LinkedIn journey providing tips on networking:
Networking is not just about you. You also have to provide value to the other person to build a long-lasting relationship going forward.
It is normal to feel the nerves. Every single person (including those who are big on LinkedIn) faced this struggle.
Take that first step and send that message to the person. Feeling the nerves is natural but don’t let it control you.

Creating a Personal Brand
Mawuena highlighted these tips for creating your personal brand on LinkedIn:
Ask yourself “What three words do I want to be known for?”
With the three words in mind, you can then tailor your LinkedIn profile.
Take inspiration from those you look up to but do not aim to be a carbon copy of them. Your personal brand is personal to YOU!
